A Healing Turmeric Latte
Turmeric is a word often heard these days. But why?
As a member of the ginger family, it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Like many spices, turmeric (Curcuma longa) has a long history of use in traditional medicine. This flavor-filled spice is primarily cultivated from the rhizomes, or roots, of a flowering plant in India and other parts of Southeast Asia, and aside from giving curry its vibrant yellow color, turmeric is also known for having potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Here is one of my favorite, simple at home recipes for a turmeric latte often known as a golden milk latte.
A Healing Turmeric Latte
Ingredients:
1.5 cups of almond milk or coconut milk (or any milk)
¼ tsp ground turmeric
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp (I use Lakanto) maple syrup
grind of black pepper
Directions:
Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and whisk constantly over a gentle heat, ideally with a milk frother if you have one.
Once hot, pour into mugs and sprinkle with a little more cinnamon or nutmeg to serve.
